At approximately 08h49, Marshall Security Armed Response Officers were flagged down along Umgeni Road near a well-known fuel station by a member of the public who appeared visibly distressed and in need of urgent assistance.
The victim reported that he had just been robbed of his cellphone moments earlier on Umgeni Road by three suspects, where one suspect strangled him from behind while his accomplices searched him for his personal belongings before fleeing. He provided a description of the suspects and the direction in which they had fled.
Acting immediately on the information received, officers conducted a search of the surrounding area, focusing on nearby streets and possible escape routes.
While patrolling the area, officers observed three individuals on the corner of Livingstone Road and Umgeni Road matching the description provided. The suspects were approached and apprehended.
A search of the suspects led to the recovery of the stolen cellphone.
The victim was brought to the scene and positively identified both the suspects and his recovered property.
SAPS were contacted and arrived shortly thereafter. The suspects were handed over and, together with the victim, were transported to Durban Central SAPS for further investigation and processing.
This incident highlights the importance of rapid response, coordinated patrols, and immediate action in ensuring suspects are quickly located and stolen property is recovered.
