At approximately 15h15, members of Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team (SOT) together with Durban North Trio Crimes received information regarding suspects who had attempted to scam a victim in the Ballito area before fleeing the scene.
A description of the suspects and the vehicle they were travelling in was obtained and immediately circulated to members.
While conducting proactive patrols in the Umhlanga area, SOT members together with Durban North SAPS Trio crimes spotted a vehicle matching the description provided and attempted to bring it to a stop.
The suspects, however, accelerated and attempted to flee at high speed, resulting in a pursuit through the area.
The vehicle eventually became stuck in traffic, at which point the suspects abandoned their attempt to flee. Two suspects managed to evade apprehension, while one suspect was successfully apprehended by the members.
A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of numerous Speedpoint machines and keypads believed to have been used in the commission of fraudulent activities.
The suspect, together with the recovered devices and vehicle used in the commission of crime was taken to Durban North SAPS for further investigation and processing.
Marshall Security commends the vigilance and determination of its Special Operations Team members and Durban North SAPS trio crimes , whose proactive patrols and rapid response resulted in the successful apprehension of the suspect.
This incident once again highlights the importance of rapid information sharing and proactive policing, with information received in Ballito ultimately enabling our Special Operations Team to intercept the suspects in Umhlanga.
