At approximately 18h36, members of the Greater Westmead Association (GWA) Marshall Security Tactical Teams and Armed Response Officers responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle identified by the GWA Drone Division on Kyalami Road in the Westmead area.
Upon arrival, members discovered two security officers from another private security company at a construction site. One officer was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound, while a second officer was located inside a security vehicle having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Both officers showed no signs of life.
Marshall Security members immediately secured the scene, and the GWA Emergency Dispatch Centre notified Pinetown SAPS and emergency medical services. Paramedics arrived a short while later and declared both officers deceased.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation by SAPS. According to preliminary information, the incident may have stemmed from a dispute between the two officers. However, the exact sequence of events and motive have not yet been confirmed and will form part of the ongoing police investigation.
