Two suspects were apprehended by Marshall Security Armed Response Officers in separate incidents yesterday and today following reports from vigilant members of the public, highlighting the importance of community involvement in the fight against crime.
Springfield – Copper Pipe Theft Suspect Apprehended
At approximately 07h45 yesterday morning, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a client along Branch Lane in Springfield, who reported seeing a suspect jumping into a neighbouring property, which is not monitored by Marshall Security.
Despite the property not being a Marshall Security client, multiple Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to assist and help safeguard the community.
Upon arrival, officers established that the suspect had already fled the property. Armed with a clear description, officers conducted searches in the surrounding area. A short while later, the suspect was spotted along Quarry Road and immediately apprehended.
According to reports from the scene, the suspect is believed to be linked to several copper pipe theft incidents in the Springfield area, where cases have previously been opened at Mayville SAPS.
Mayville SAPS were contacted and arrived on scene shortly afterwards, taking the suspect into custody for further investigation and processing.
Kenville – Suspect Caught Stealing Streetlight Cables
In a separate incident today, at approximately 14h05, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received reports of a theft in progress via a WhatsApp Crime Alert Group.
The incident was unfolding along Workington Road in Kenville, where a vigilant member of the public spotted a suspect climbing a streetlight pole and actively stealing cables.
Multiple Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived within minutes. Armed with a description supplied by the eyewitness, officers located the suspect as he was climbing down the pole after cutting the cables and immediately apprehended him.
Greenwood Park SAPS were contacted and arrived on scene shortly afterwards, transporting the suspect to the station for further investigation and processing.
The Kenville area has experienced numerous cable theft incidents, and the suspect is believed to potentially be linked to previous cases. This will, however, form part of an ongoing SAPS investigation.
Marshall Security continues to play an active role in fighting crime and safeguarding communities, and these two incidents are excellent examples of how information received from vigilant community members can translate into tangible results.
