At approximately 09h13 this morning, while conducting proactive patrols in the Westmead area, members of the GWA Marshall Security Armed Response Officers observed an individual walking along Henry Pennington Road behaving suspiciously while carrying copper piping.
Based on the suspicious behaviour observed, backup was requested, and additional GWA Marshall Security Armed Response Officers, GWA Marshall Security Tactical Teams, SAPS members, and the GWA Drone Division providing aerial overwatch responded to the scene.

The individual was intercepted outside a premises on Gillitts Road and copper piping was found in his possession consistent with material removed from an air-conditioning unit.
When questioned regarding the origin of the copper, the suspect claimed that it had been given to him by a relative employed at a local air-conditioning company. Further enquiries were conducted; however, the explanation provided could not be verified.
SAPS attended the scene shortly thereafter and the suspect, together with the recovered copper piping, would be transported to Pinetown SAPS for further investigation and processing.
The business owner linked to the investigation was advised accordingly and to proceed to SAPS to formally open a case.
This incident highlights the Greater Westmead Association and Marshall Security’s ongoing commitment to proactive patrols, coordinated response, and the integration of advanced technology such as the GWA Drone Division in identifying suspicious activity and preventing property-related crime within the Westmead area.
