This morning at approximately 05h40, an off-duty GWA Marshall Security Armed Response Officer observed an individual behaving suspiciously while carrying gardening tools along Henry Pennington Road in the Westmead area.
Recognising the unusual behaviour, the officer immediately contacted the GWA Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre, which promptly dispatched GWA Marshall Security Armed Response and Tactical Officers to the scene.
Upon arrival, responding teams located the individual and conducted an on-scene investigation. The suspect was unable to provide a reasonable explanation for being in possession of the tools and subsequently admitted to having stolen them from a property in the Marianridge area. The suspect was immediately apprehended.

Members of the South African Police Service (Pinetown SAPS) were contacted and arrived shortly thereafter. The suspect was handed over and transported to the local police station for further investigation and processing.
GWA Marshall Security commends the vigilance of its off-duty officer and the rapid response of its teams. This incident once again highlights that even when off duty, our officers remain alert, committed, and ready to act in the interest of community and business safety.
We never switch off — our eyes are always open, ensuring suspicious activity is identified and addressed at all times.
