Yesterday, at approximately 15h17, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a panic activation from a Marshall Security client on Tweed Road in the Effingham area. Information received indicated that an individual had entered the property while being chased by members of the public.
Marshall Security Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers interviewed the individual, who claimed to be fleeing from people attempting to rob them. At the time, the explanation appeared credible, and the individual was allowed to leave.
A short while later, one of the responding Armed Response Officers was flagged down by a member of the public, who reported that his 13-year-old son had recently been robbed of a Mobicel cellphone by a suspect matching the description of the individual officers had just encountered.
The information was immediately circulated to responding officers, who quickly located and apprehended the suspect at the corner of Tweed Road and Ardrossan Road.
Although a search of the suspect did not uncover the stolen cellphone, members of Greenwood Park SAPS arrived on scene and conducted further questioning. During the interview, the suspect admitted to robbing the teenager and further confessed to selling the stolen cellphone for R30 to an employee at a well-known scrap yard on Old North Coast Road.
Greenwood Park SAPS immediately proceeded to the premises, where the stolen cellphone was successfully recovered.
The suspect was arrested and transported to Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigation and processing.
Marshall Security commends the swift actions of its Armed Response Officers and acknowledges the excellent cooperation of Greenwood Park SAPS. This incident highlights the importance of rapid response, community vigilance, and strong partnerships in ensuring suspects are swiftly identified, apprehended, and brought before the law.
