Arrest Of Three Suspects in Series of Robberies Across Durban

Yesterday morning at approximately 11h15, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a report of a robbery on Duffy Crescent in the Avoca area.

Multiple Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Operations Team were immediately dispatched to scene.

On scene, it was established that a patron of one of the homeowners on Duffy Crescent was approached by a suspect on pretence of knowing him. During his interaction with the patron the suspect managed to steal his phone without him noticing. The suspect then gets into his gateway vehicle a silver Toyota Ayga and flees the scene. The patron then only discovers that his phone had been stolen.

Leveraging CCTV and ANPR Camera systems, our Emergency Dispatch Centre was able to establish the registration plate of the suspect’s vehicle. Shortly thereafter, a second robbery was reported on Clyde Road in the Greenwood Park area, involving the same suspect and vehicle. This time, a gardener was robbed of his earnings and cellphone.

A search for the wanted suspects vehicle was immediately intensified.

A short while later the suspects vehicle was the spotted in the Umhlanga area joining the M4 North Freeway by members of our Special Operations Team.

Greenwood Park SAPS Trio Crimes Unit was immediately contacted to assist.

In a well executed operation the vehicle was eventually bought to a halt on the M27 in the vicinity of Verulam where 3 suspects were apprehended. Upon searching the suspects, the stolen items, including cellphones and cash, were recovered.

Both victims were informed who were in the process of opening a case against the suspects at Greenwood Park SAPS.

The vehicle used in the commission of a crime and all three suspects were transported to Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigation and processing.
