Avoca and Montclair Armed Suspects Apprehended: Stolen Goods Recovered in KwaMashu

Yesterday afternoon KwaMashu SAPS Trio Crimes Unit and Marshall Security Special Operations Team received vital information about a robbery in the Montclair area. The suspects, traveling in a white Toyota Etios, had reportedly robbed workers on the roadside of two grass-cutting machines before fleeing the scene.

Other security providers and members of the public pursued the suspects toward KwaMashu but eventually lost sight of the vehicle. Remaining vigilant, teams continued patrolling the area, keeping a lookout for the mentioned Etios.

While our members were patrolling on the M25 near Malandela Road, members spotted the vehicle with grass-cutting machines visibly sticking out of its window. Acting swiftly, they intercepted the vehicle at the intersection of Malandela Road and the M25, successfully apprehending two suspects together with the assistance of Kwamashu SAPS Trio Crimes Unit.

Upon searching the vehicle and suspects, the following items were recovered:

  • A black gas pistol in the possession of one suspect.
  • Two grass-cutting machines stolen in the Montclair robbery.
  • Numerous cellphones, bags, and personal documents belonging to other victims.

Upon further investigation, it was confirmed the suspects’ were involved in the Montclair robbery.
Two cellphones recovered in the vehicle belonged to women who had been robbed in Montclair earlier that day.

The suspects were also linked to a robbery on Avoca Road, Avoca. Where a male victim was robbed of his cellphone and wallet—recovered in the Etios. The suspects, stolen items, and vehicle were transported to KwaMashu SAPS for further investigation. Police suspect the individuals may be linked to a series of armed robberies across the greater Durban area. Investigations are ongoing, and additional charges are expected.
