Community Tip-Off Leads to Arrest of Housebreaking Suspect

At approximately 07h45, Marshall Security received information via a Crime Alert WhatsApp group from a member of the public who witnessed an unknown individual climbing down from the roof of a residence on Thirlmere Place in Durban North before entering the home by forcing open an upstairs window.

Marshall Security Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to investigate.

During the search, officers discovered several copper pipes lying inside an outbuilding.

While inspecting one of the rooms, Armed Response Officers noticed that a door would not close properly. Upon further investigation, the suspect was found hiding behind the door and was immediately apprehended.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to gaining access to the property by jumping over the front boundary wall before climbing onto the roof using a downpipe, entering the residence through an upstairs window, and removing several copper pipes from a bathroom within the home.

Durban North SAPS were contacted and arrived on scene shortly thereafter. The suspect was transported to the police station for further investigation and processing, where a case of housebreaking and theft was opened.

This incident highlights the importance of community vigilance, rapid response, and thorough search procedures in ensuring suspects are located, stolen property is recovered, and offenders are brought to justice.
