At approximately 08h00 this morning, while patrolling along Chris Hani Road in the Greenwood Park area, members of our Special Operations Team (SOT) noticed a suspicious male carrying a heavy-looking white plastic bag.
Our SOT members immediately stopped to investigate. As he approached, the suspect dropped the bag and ran. A brief foot chase ensued, and the copper theft suspect was swiftly caught and apprehended.
Upon inspecting the white plastic bag, our SOT members discovered cut pieces of copper pipe. The suspect could not provide a valid explanation for how he obtained the copper pipes.
Both the copper theft suspect and the recovered pipes were taken to Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigation and processing.
