Last night at approximately 21h10, members of our GWA Tactical Team were on routine patrol in the Westmead area when they noticed a truck parked on the M13.
Our team immediately responded, assuming that the truck had broken down. Upon arrival, they observed a male truck driver and a female driver of a white Ford Ikon siphoning diesel from the truck.
The truck driver quickly fled the scene in his truck, nearly running over one of our Tactical Officers. The female driver of the Ford Ikon, later identified as the truck driver’s wife, was apprehended with 3x 25L containers full of diesel.
The details of the fleeing truck were circulated to all Marshall Security Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Operations Team. Shortly after, the truck was spotted by our Special Operations Team on the N2 Northbound Highway, and the driver was apprehended at a well-known service station on the N2.
A further 4x 25L containers full of diesel were found on the truck.
The owners of the trucking company were contacted and, unaware of the theft, decided to press charges against the couple.
Pinetown SAPS and Newlands East SAPS arrived at the respective scenes and transported the suspects to Pinetown SAPS for further legal proceedings.
These incidents highlight the unwavering commitment of the Greater Westmead Association, Marshall Security, Pinetown SAPS, and Newlands East SAPS to community safety. We commend our officers and the police officers for their vigilance and quick response, ensuring that potential disasters are promptly addressed to keep our communities secure.
