Marshall Security Officers Take Three Suspects Off the Streets in 10 Hours

Marshall Security Armed Response Officers have been kept busy since the early hours of this morning, with active patrols, effective investigations and community cooperation resulting in three suspects being apprehended in separate incidents across Kenville, Morningside and Greenwood Park within a 10-hour period.

In the earliest incident, at approximately 01h28, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a panic alarm activation from a client along Ken Place in Kenville. The homeowner reported seeing a suspect using a bush knife to cut cables from a streetlight pole outside his property. The suspect fled into nearby bushes when the alarm was activated.

Armed Response Officers immediately responded and searched the surrounding area. After a short search, the suspect was located hiding in the bushes and apprehended, with a bush knife found in his possession. Further investigation revealed that the streetlight cables had been cut and damaged.

At approximately 05h00, an Armed Response Officer conducting proactive patrols near the intersection of Problem Mkhize Road and Sandile Thusi Road in Morningside noticed a suspicious individual carrying a large black plastic bag. When approached, the suspect dropped the bag and fled on foot. Officers immediately sprang into action, and following a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended. A bush knife was also found in his possession.

Upon inspecting the abandoned bag, officers discovered a vehicle wheel. The suspect could not provide a reasonable explanation for having the item, and it is suspected that the wheel may have been stolen from a vehicle or property in the surrounding area.

In the most recent incident, at approximately 10h10, a Greenwood Park resident shared CCTV footage on a WhatsApp Crime Alert Group showing a suspect fleeing her property with stolen copper pipes. Armed Response Officers responded and reviewed additional footage, which showed the suspect forcibly removing approximately four metres of copper piping before fleeing.

After obtaining a clear description, officers began searching for the suspect. A short while later, an individual matching the description was spotted along Stanhope Place and apprehended with the stolen copper pipes in his possession.

Marshall Security commends the officers involved for their vigilance, persistence and commitment, as well as the community members whose panic alarm activation, CCTV footage and information helped bring these incidents to a successful conclusion. Notably, the copper pipe theft occurred at a property no longer monitored by Marshall Security, yet our officers still took action to assist.

All three suspects, together with the relevant recovered property, were handed over to the relevant SAPS stations for further investigation and legal processing.

While these arrests may seem like small victories in isolation, the bigger picture is what matters: three suspects are now in police custody and can no longer continue their alleged activities while in custody. Investigations may also establish whether any of the suspects can be linked to other outstanding cases in the respective areas.

At Marshall Security, we believe that every intervention counts, every suspect apprehended matters, and every effort to protect our communities makes a difference. Our teams remain active, investigating, patrolling and taking action wherever possible — even when the property involved is not protected by Marshall Security.

Does your security provider go the extra mile? At Marshall Security, protecting our communities goes beyond responding to alarms. It is about staying alert, taking action and making a tangible difference on the ground.
