Effingham Hijacking Suspect Arrested After High-Speed Chase

On the evening of August 29th, at approximately 19:00, Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre received a critical alert regarding a hijacking incident on Desia Crescent, Effingham. Our Armed Response Officers, along with members of our Special Operations Team, immediately rushed to the scene to gather more information.

Upon arrival, it was reported that three armed suspects in a maroon vehicle had hijacked a black Ford Figo and fled the scene. The last known location of the hijacked vehicle was tracked to Lenham Drive in Phoenix. Acting quickly on this information, our Special Operations Team proceeded towards the area.

A few minutes later, the Ford Figo was moving towards Inanda. With real-time updates provided by the victim and other sources, our team, in collaboration with Phoenix SAPS Trio Crimes Unit, closed in on the vehicle’s location. While driving on Amatabetule Road in Iqadi, our teams spotted the hijacked Ford Figo, and a high-speed chase ensued. The pursuit ended when the suspects lost control of the vehicle and crashed into roadside barriers. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape into the nearby bushes.

Our Special Operations Team, alongside Phoenix SAPS Trio Crimes Unit, immediately pursued the suspects into the bushes and successfully apprehended one of them. During the search, our officers found the numerous items belonging to the victim and a Toyota key on the suspect. Upon questioning, the suspect revealed that the Toyota key belonged to the maroon Toyota Camry used in the hijacking.

The suspect led our team to the maroon Toyota Camry, which was recovered not far from where the Ford Figo had crashed. Further investigation revealed that the Toyota Camry had been hijacked in Verulam earlier that morning by the same group of suspects.

The apprehended suspect was taken to Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigation and processing. Both vehicles were secured and transported by Nettow Towing to Greenwood Park SAPS for forensic examination and processing.

This operation underscores the importance of swift, coordinated action in combatting crime. We commend our Special Operations Team, the Phoenix SAPS Trio Crimes Unit, and all involved parties for their quick response and dedication to ensuring the safety and security of our community.
