This morning our teams managed to recover a vehicle that was hijacked where a female was held up at gun point and kidnapped.
At approximately 10h20 the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre was alerted to an armed robbery in progress at a well-known bank in the Umhlanga Ridge area.
Multiple Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Operations Team were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene a few minutes later.
Reports from the scene indicated that a female driver whilst existing the parkade of a well-known shopping mall in the Umhlanga Ridge area was confronted by an unknown suspect who was armed with a firearm and demanded cash from the female victim. However, the female victim did not have any cash with her. The suspect then demanded that she to drive to a nearby bank to withdraw an undisclosed amount of money.
The female victim followed the suspects instructions as he had threatened to kill her if she did not comply. The female victim then drove to a nearby bank and the suspect waited in the car for her to return with the cash.
The victim proceeded to the bank and managed to inform the necessary law enforcement of what had happened. When the suspect relised that the female had not returned to the vehicle he then fled with the females white Mercedes Benz.

Details of the hijacked vehicle was then circulated to all our Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Ops Team to be on the lookout.
Tracker SA was also contacted and notified to activate the tracking device for the hijacked vehicle.
After a short track the vehicle was recovered at a well-know shopping mall in the Umhlanga Ridge area by our Armed Response Officers, members of our Special Ops Team, the Tracker SA ground team and the Durban North SAPS Rapid Response Team.
The vehicle was then transported to the Durban North SAPS for further investigation and processing.
The Durban North SAPS are currently investigating a case of kidnapping.
