On 14 July 2025, Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team (SOT) received CCTV footage from our client on Burne Crescent in the Glenashley area. The footage, recorded during the early hours of 13 July, showed a suspect breaking into an outbuilding and stealing multiple power tools, copper pipes, and clothing.
Later that same day, while patrolling along Umhlanga Rocks Drive, our SOT members observed a male matching the description from the footage. The suspect was wearing the same clothing and carrying a distinctive white bag, walking in the direction of Durban North.
Members immediately stopped and questioned the suspect, conducting a search of his bag. During the search, members recovered a drill and a sanding machine—both positively identified as the stolen power tools from our client in Burne Crescent. Upon further questioning, the suspect admitted to the theft of the power tools and copper pipes and led members to his sleeping place at a well-known informal settlement on Old North Coast Road in the Avoca area. There, members successfully recovered the remaining stolen power tools, clothing, and a laptop.

Further investigations indicated that the suspect had attempted a break-in at a property on Inverness Crescent on the morning of 12 July 2025, which was interrupted by an alarm activation, and had committed a housebreaking on Beachway, where he stole a laptop before fleeing. Both incidents have open cases with SAPS.
In addition to the above, it was later established that the suspect is possibly linked to numerous housebreaking and copper theft incidents in the La Lucia and Glenashley areas.
Members transported the suspect and all recovered items to Durban North SAPS for further processing. Investigations are ongoing, and Marshall Security continues to liaise with Durban North Detectives to establish links to additional cases.
This arrest highlights the power of technology, rapid tactical response, and strong collaboration between private security and SAPS in holding criminals accountable.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Marshall Security Special Operations Team, Durban North SAPS Trio Crimes, and Durban North SAPS Crime Prevention for their outstanding support and commitment in bringing about this successful arrest.
The Importance of Opening a Case
Reporting crime isn’t just about seeking justice—it’s about making a difference. Opening a case with SAPS is essential to ensure that criminals are held accountable and do not continue their activities unchecked. Without a formal case, law enforcement cannot prosecute suspects, and vital crime data remains incomplete.
By reporting incidents and opening cases, you contribute to accurate crime statistics, which help authorities allocate resources effectively to high-risk areas.
Marshall Security urges all residents and visitors to take action. If you experience or witness a crime, report it and open a case—because your report can help make our community safer.
