Chase Leads to Crash but Suspects Evade Capture

In the early hours of this morning at approximately 03h50, our Special Operations Team was alerted to the theft of a white VW Polo, distinctly marked with company signage, in the Sydenham area.

At approximately 04h00, while members were patrolling on Inanda road, they noticed the same mentioned stolen vehicle driving towards the Newlands area. As the suspects noticed the members, they immediately started to flee at high-speed.

The suspects then turned around and fled towards the N2 and joined the N2 northbound. After a short high-speed chase, the suspects lost control of the vehicle and hit the side barrier just before Nandi Drive on the N2.

The suspects’ vehicle then spun out and collided with our teams vehicle. As the vehicles came to a halt, the suspects alighted from the vehicle and fled into a nearby dense bush.

Members searched the bushes for the suspects but were unfortunately unable to apprehend them. Greenwood Park SAPS arrived on scene a short while later and took over the scene.

In an separate incident that occurred, this afternoon at approximately 12h36 members of our Special Operations Team were activated to assist Tracker SA with a VW Polo which had been reported stolen from the Durban Beach front, on Snell Parade in the Durban Central area.

Our team members immediately responded in search of the stolen vehicle.

Within the matter of 20 minutes the vehicle was tracked down and recovered abandoned in the Kwamashu area by Tracker SA ground team assisted by members of our Special Operations Team and Ntuzuma SAPS.

The vehicle was then transported to Ntuzuma SAPS for further investigations and processing.
