On Saturday the 25th of September at approximately 09h15, a vehicle wanted for being involved in numerous cases of theft of motor vehicles was spotted in the Umhlanga area by members of our Special Operation Team. Additional backup vehicles were immediately dispatched to assist.
After the suspects noticed our team members following them, a high speed chase ensued on the M41 westbound freeway. The suspects’ vehicle was eventually stopped by members of our Special Operations Team together with members of the Phoenix Trio Crime Unit, where four suspects were immediately arrested.
Upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, numerous computer boxes used to steal motor vehicles, as well as general car break-in implements, were found. The vehicle was also fitted with cloned number plates. The suspects are possibly linked to numerous vehicle theft cases over the last few months in the Durban North, Greenwood Park, Morningside and Phoenix areas.
The suspects were then transported to the Phoenix police station for further processing and investigation.
