Yesterday at approximately 16h15, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a frantic call for assistance via a WhatsApp crime alert group from a non-Marshall Security client on Margaret Maytom Avenue in the Durban North area.
Reports from the scene indicate that the homeowner spotted a suspect ripping off copper pipes from their wall and stealing an extension cord from their premises.
After an extensive and lengthy man hunt the wanted suspect was finally apprehended nearly two hours later after being spotted in the Virginia Bush just off Umhlanga Rocks Drive in the Durban North area by members of our Special Operations Team and the Durban North SAPS Trio Crimes Unit. The suspect was found in possession of copper piping and the stolen extension cord.
The suspect is believed to be involved in numerous house breakings and theft of copper incidents within the Durban North and Greenwood Park area however this will be investigated further by the SAPS.
The suspect together with the stolen items were transported to Durban North SAPS for further investigation and processing.
