This afternoon at approximately 15h20 our Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a client in the Glen Anil area after hearing gunshots being fired, but couldn’t establish where the shots were coming from.
Multiple Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Operations Team responded to the call and upon investigation it was established that there had been an attempted armed robbery at a business premises on Columbine Place in Glen Anil.
During the business robbery a shootout had ensued between staff members and armed suspects. During the shootout one of the staff members, a manager, sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Netcare911 were immediately notified and arrived on scene a short while later. Due to the severity and condition of the victim, the Netcare911 aeromedical helicopter was activated. The victim was treated and stabilised on scene by Netcare911 paramedics before being airlifted to hospital for further medical care.
It is believed that one of the suspects were also shot during the robbery, but managed to flee the scene in an unknown getaway vehicle. Nothing was taken during the robbery.
The scene was secured and handed over to the SAPS for further processing and investigation.
