In the early hours of Saturday morning, Marshall Security patrolling officers reported hearing multiple gunshots outside a local establishment in Lower Umhlanga. Marshall Security’s Tactical Unit was immediately dispatched and arrived swiftly on scene to investigate.
Upon arrival, officers were informed that a male suspect had been involved in an altercation inside the nightclub. Following the dispute, the suspect exited the venue and discharged a firearm in the street outside.
A suspicious blue Renault Triber was observed fleeing the area at speed. Durban North SAPS were notified and dispatched, while our Tactical Unit initiated pursuit of the vehicle.
The suspect attempted to evade officers, resulting in a short, high-risk pursuit that concluded in Phoenix when the suspect lost control and overturned the vehicle in a residential area.

One male suspect was successfully apprehended on scene. A blank-firing pistol used in the incident was also recovered. It is believed that the suspect intended to intimidate others involved in the nightclub altercation.
Shortly after the crash, several acquaintances of the suspect arrived at the scene. Marshall Security Tactical officers maintained control of the area until backup units arrived. Phoenix SAPS provided immediate assistance and initially took control of the scene.
The suspect and recovered firearm were later handed over to Durban North SAPS by Phoenix SAPS for further investigation and processing.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident.
A huge thank you to Phoenix SAPS and Durban North SAPS for their swift response, coordination, and continued partnership in ensuring public safety.
