Last night, at approximately 19:55, one of our highly alert Armed Response Officers was patrolling along Chris Hani Road in the Greenwood Park area when two distressed civilians urgently flagged him down. They reported that a pickpocket suspect had just stolen a cell phone, ID, and bank card before fleeing on foot.
Without hesitation, our officer sprang into action and immediately began searching for the suspect. Within moments, the pickpocket suspect was spotted attempting to escape by boarding a taxi. Wasting no time, the officer swiftly intercepted the vehicle, bringing it to a halt.
The suspect was positively identified by the victims. A thorough search confirmed the stolen items were still in his possession, and he was apprehended on the spot. The suspect was then handed over to Greenwood Park SAPS, where he will face charges of theft.
This incident once again highlights the vigilance, quick thinking, and decisive action of our Armed Response Officers—always ready to protect and serve our community at a moment’s notice.
