At approximately 01h55 this morning, while conducting routine patrols along Lillian Ngoyi Road in the Morningside area, a Marshall Security Armed Response Officer observed two male suspects walking while carrying a flat-screen television partially concealed under a blanket.
The manner in which the television was being carried immediately raised suspicion. The officer maintained visual contact with the suspects, and backup was requested.
As the suspects became aware that they were being observed, they dropped the suspected stolen items and fled on foot.
A lengthy foot chase ensued; however, despite an extensive search, the suspects managed to evade arrest.
Additional items were later located hidden in a nearby bush, where the suspects had attempted to conceal them.
The recovered property, which included one flat-screen television, a kettle, and other household items, was handed over to Berea SAPS for further investigation and safekeeping.
This incident highlights the importance of alert patrols, ensuring that suspicious activity is identified early and that potential criminal proceeds are recovered before disappearing into circulation.
