Quick Action Leads to Arrest in Copper Cable Theft in Durban North

This afternoon, at approximately 12h30, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a member of the public stating that two suspects were seen stealing electrical copper cables on Ellis Park Drive in the Athlone, Durban North area.

Members of our Special Operations Team were immediately dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, our team members spotted two suspects actively cutting and stealing the electrical copper cables. As soon as the suspects noticed our team members they immediately started to flee on foot.

After a short foot chase, one suspect was swiftly apprehended. An extensive search for the second suspect was conducted but unfortunately managed to evade arrest.

Greenwood Park SAPS were notified and arrived on scene a short while later and transported the suspect and stolen electrical copper cables to Greenwood Park SAPS. The suspect will be facing charges of theft and tampering of state infrastructure.
