At approximately 10h25 this morning, Marshall Security received a phone call from a vigilant member of the public reporting a potential water meter theft on 6th Avenue, Morningside. The description of the suspect, who was on crutches, was quickly circulated to responding Armed Response Officers.
Upon arrival, the suspect was spotted carrying a plastic bag. When approached by our team, the suspect began to act suspiciously, prompting a search of the bag. A water meter was found inside. The suspect was immediately apprehended and admitted to stealing the water meter from 6th Avenue.
Members visited the property and informed the complainant, who wished to press charges. SAPS were contacted and arrived shortly after. The suspect was handed over to SAPS for further legal proceedings. It appears that this suspect is linked to previous water meter thefts at the same complex.
