Repeat Offending Thief Chased Down In Essenwood

A suspect who has been arrested multiple times for theft was again chased down and apprehended in Essenwood earlier today.

At approximately 12h40 this afternoon the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a panic activation from a client in the Essenwood area. It was established that a suspect had stolen a motorist’s cellphone through an open car window while parked on Guildford Road, and then proceeded to flee on foot.

Multiple Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene within minutes. The suspect was then spotted running on Guilford Road and, after a short foot chase, was successfully arrested with the assistance of members of the public and a security officer from another private security company.

The suspect has been arrested numerous times before in the Glenashley, Umhlanga, Durban North, Umgeni Park and Morningside area for similar crimes.

The suspect together with the stolen phone was handed over to the Berea SAPS for further investigation and processing.
