Response officers track down attempted housebreakers, make arrest

Response officers track down attempted housebreakers, arrest made

Earlier today at approximately 14h45 the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received several WhatsApp messages on various crime alert groups that two suspects had attempted to break into the garage of a property on Anthony Road in Umgeni Park, but fled after being seen by the gardener. A description of the suspects were relayed to all our responding officers.

A short while later the two suspects were seen walking on Riverside Road by our Armed Response Officers, who immediately pursued. After a short foot chase, one of the suspects was arrested on Roadhouse Crescent while the second suspect unfortunately managed to evaded arrest after fleeing into a dense nearby bush. Upon searching the suspect, various housebreaking implements were found in his possession.

The suspect will be charged for being in possession of housebreaking implements once Greenwood Park SAPS arrive on scene.

The second arrest in the span of 24 hours, a fence-hopping suspect was arrested for stealing a water meter and copper piping in Park Hill last night.

At approximately 21h20 members of our Special Operations Team, whilst on patrol, noticed a suspect stealing a water meter on Blackburn Road area outside a non-client’s property.

As soon as the suspect noticed our members approaching, he started to flee and jumped into a property on Mornington Road and started to fence-hop. Additional back up units were dispatched and an extensive search was conducted for the suspect. A few minutes later, after a resident spotted the suspect in their property and immediately informed our Emergency Dispatch Centre, our members immediately responded and managed to apprehend the suspect on a property in Mornington Road.

The suspect together with the stolen water meter and copper pipe was handed over to the Greenwood Park Police who will be investigating a case of theft.
