This morning, just after 08h00, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a concerned member of the public who witnessed a security officer from another private security company being assaulted on Armstrong Avenue in the La Lucia area.
Multiple Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Operations Team were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, it was confirmed that the security officer had been robbed of two cell phones and assaulted by a suspect who had fled the scene.
The victim provided a clear description of the suspect to our officers, who immediately initiated a search. While searching a nearby bush on Armstrong Avenue, the suspect was spotted and, after a short foot chase, apprehended.
Upon searching the suspect, four cell phones were found in his possession, two of which were positively identified as those stolen during the robbery earlier. Additionally, two bicycles, two helmets, and a skateboard were discovered nearby in the bush. The suspect admitted to stealing these items.
Durban North SAPS were contacted and arrived on the scene shortly after, taking control of the situation. It has not yet been established where the bicycles, helmets, and skateboard were stolen from. We urge the community to report any recent thefts to SAPS as soon as possible.
The suspect, along with the stolen items, was transported to Durban North SAPS for further investigation and processing.
This successful apprehension highlights our ongoing commitment to community safety. We commend our team for their rapid and coordinated response, ensuring that criminal activities are promptly addressed to keep our community secure.
