At approximately 08h36, while conducting proactive patrols, Marshall Security Armed Response Officers noticed a suspicious individual walking along Henwood Lane, Morningside, carrying a ladder that had been covered with a sack.
The officers stopped the individual at the intersection of Henwood Lane and Sandile Thusi Road and questioned him regarding the ladder.
The suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation as to where he had obtained the ladder or how it had come into his possession. He was subsequently apprehended.
SAPS arrived on scene a short while later; however, the suspect was still unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the ladder. He was subsequently transported to Durban Central SAPS for further investigation and was formally charged.
Members of the public are urged to check their properties and outbuildings to determine whether a ladder may have recently been stolen. At this stage, it remains unclear where the recovered ladder originated from. Anyone who has had a ladder stolen, or believes the recovered ladder may belong to them, is urged to report the theft to Durban Central SAPS as soon as possible and provide any relevant details that may assist investigators in linking the recovered property to the original theft.
