Shots were fired during an armed robbery of yet another courier vehicle yesterday.
Yesterday morning at approximately 10h00 the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received reports of an armed robbery in progress with shots being fired on Queen Nandi Drive in the Newlands East area.
Multiple Armed Response Officers and Special Operation Team members were dispatched and arrived on scene a short while later.
It was later established that four armed suspects had attempted to hijack or rob a courier vehicle for its goods. The suspects however did not notice a private armed security company who were escorting the courier vehicle. The suspects were disturbed and a shootout between the suspects and the escorting security company ensued. One suspect was shot during the shootout and fled on foot while the other three suspects got back into the silver unknown getaway vehicle and fled the scene towards Kwamashu on Queen Nandi Drive.
Members of our Special Operations Team, Armed Response Officer as well and members of the SAPS from Kwamashu and the Provincial Trio Task Team searched for the wounded suspect in the dense bush. After an extensive search the suspect managed to evade arrest and is believed to have been picked up on the N2 Highway.
The scene was secured and handed over to Newlands SAPS who will be investigating further.
