At approximately 14h15, while conducting proactive patrols along Rapson Road in Morningside, Marshall Security Armed Response Officers noticed that a garage door at a nearby property was partially open.
Although the property was not monitored by Marshall Security, the officers immediately became suspicious and took the initiative to investigate.
Their suspicions were heightened by the fact that a housebreaking had occurred at the property earlier this week, while the garage door had reportedly been closed earlier in the day. Officers also noticed a person’s feet visible underneath the partially opened garage door.
It was subsequently established that the suspect had opened the garage door in order to gain access to the property.
Members immediately approached and questioned the individual, who was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his presence on the property or confirm that he had permission to be there.

The property owner was contacted and confirmed that, although he was not currently residing at the premises, several valuable items were being stored inside the garage. The owner further confirmed that he had not given anyone permission to enter the garage and wished to open a criminal case against the suspect.
Berea SAPS were notified and arrived on scene a short while later. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Berea SAPS for further investigation and processing.
Marshall Security commends the vigilance and proactive approach of its Armed Response Officers, whose attention to suspicious activity ultimately resulted in the successful apprehension of the suspect.
Importantly, the property involved was not a Marshall Security client’s premises. However, this did not deter our members from investigating the suspicious circumstances and taking action.
The incident highlights Marshall Security’s ongoing commitment to proactive crime prevention and protecting the wider community, whether they are Marshall Security clients or not.
