Last night at approximately 19h35, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received panic signals from a client’s premises on Kruin Crescent in Durban North.
Upon contacting the client, it was reported that a housebreaking had occurred at a neighbouring property. Multiple Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the neighbouring homeowners, who confirmed that a suspect had entered their property and stolen a laptop, handbag and wallet. A description of the suspect was obtained and immediately circulated to all Armed Response Officers in the area, who began searching for the suspect.
Whilst conducting their search, officers spotted the suspect on the M4 Ruth First Highway, on the Umgeni Bridge in the vicinity of Blue Lagoon. As soon as the suspect noticed the officers, he fled on foot.
The suspect was pursued by our officers in a lengthy foot chase before being apprehended at Blue Lagoon. A search of the suspect subsequently led to the recovery of the items stolen during the housebreaking.

The homeowner, who is not a Marshall Security client, was informed of the successful arrest and recovery, while Durban North SAPS were contacted to attend the scene.
Durban North SAPS arrived a short while later and transported the suspect, together with the recovered stolen property, to the station for further investigation and processing.
During further investigation, it is believed that the suspect was also wanted in connection with a house robbery and rape incident that occurred in April this year on Kenneth Kaunda Road in Durban North.
Reports from that incident indicated that the suspect had entered a property during the day, tied up a domestic worker, sexually assaulted her and ransacked the home before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of property. Durban North SAPS attended the scene at the time and a case was opened.
Durban North SAPS Detectives were subsequently informed of the suspect’s arrest and his possible connection to the outstanding case.
At Marshall Security, while responding to emergencies quickly and decisively remains a key priority, our officers also rely on their knowledge of criminal activity within the areas we service. This incident highlights the importance of identifying wanted suspects and ensuring that those responsible for crimes, whether committed last night or several months ago, are held accountable and brought to book.
