Yesterday at approximately 15h15, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received reports of a shoplifting incident which had occurred at a well-known shopping centre in the La Lucia area. Where a shoplifter had stolen numerous bars of chocolate.
A description of the wanted shoplifter was circulated to all our Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Operations Team to keep an eye out.
Within ten minutes of initiating a search, the suspect was spotted walking on Umhlanga Rocks Drive in the Sunningdale area and was immediately apprehended by members of our Special Operations Team.
Upon searching the suspect, who has been arrested numerous times by our team and who has recently been released from prison for shoplifting, multiple stolen chocolate bars were found in his possession.
The Durban North SAPS Crime Prevention Unit arrived on scene within minutes and transported the suspect to Durban North SAPS and will be facing charges of theft.
