At approximately 10:34 on the 2nd of October, Marshall Security’s Emergency Dispatch Centre received an urgent alert from a client on Surprise Road, Westmead, regarding a laptop theft that had occurred the previous day. The client reported that an elderly couple had posed as customers and entered the premises around 12:00 PM after being dropped off by a red Toyota Corolla. While the female accomplice distracted a staff member, the male suspect stole a Dell laptop from a nearby workstation.
Marshall Security’s Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene, where the client confirmed their intent to file a theft case with Pinetown SAPS.
Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team, in collaboration with the Greater Westmead Association (GWA), reviewed CCTV footage, which provided crucial information that led to the identification of the red Toyota Corolla involved in the theft.

On the 12th of October at approximately 13h02, Marshall Security officers spotted the same vehicle on Umhlanga Rocks Drive, Ilala Ridge. Acting quickly, the officers pursued and intercepted the vehicle at the corner of Kenneth Kaunda and Windsor Drive, Durban North. Inside the car were three occupants, and one of them was positively identified from the Westmead theft incident by CCTV footage.
The suspect was immediately arrested, and the red Toyota Corolla used in the crime was impounded. The suspect has been taken to Durban North SAPS for further processing, with Pinetown detectives expected to retrieve the suspect for further questioning and investigations.
