This afternoon at approximately 15h05, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call by a client on Underwood Road in the Umgeni Park area. The client reported that a suspect attempted to steal copper pipes from his unit in the complex.
An accurate description of the suspect along with last known direction of the suspect was circulated to all our responding Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Operations Team.
A short while later, the suspect was spotted on Hunters Way by our Armed Response Officers. As soon as the suspect spotted our Officers he immediately started to flee on foot.
This did not deter our dedicated Officers and after a short foot chase the suspect was apprehended. Upon searching the contents of the suspects bag an LED flood light was found. Further investigations revealed that the light had been stolen from one of the units within the complex.
Both victims of the crime were informed that the suspect was apprehended who desired to follow legal proceedings against the suspect.
The Greenwood Park SAPS were contacted and arrived on scene a short while later and transported the suspect to Greenwood Park SAPS. The suspect will be facing charges of theft, attempted theft and trespassing.
Well done yet again to our team members for yet another successful apprehension and to the client who gave an accurate description of the suspect making it easier for us to identify.
