Four car-thieving suspects were stopped in their tracks following effective communication and mobilisation by members of our Special Operations Team, Tracker SA and the Umhlali SAPS within 45 minutes of receiving a report of the theft of a vehicle in Ballito.
Yesterday morning at approximately 06h00 the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a call from a member of the public who reported that a white VW Polo had just been stolen on Compensation Road and that suspects in a white Hyundai i20 had been involved in the theft. It was confirmed that the stolen vehicle was fitted with a tracking device.
Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene for further details, and all other Armed Response Officers and Special Operation Team members were informed to be on the look out for the two vehicles.
At approximately 06h30 both the abovementioned vehicles were seen traveling on the N2 southbound before the Tongaat Toll Plaza by members of our Special Operations Team. After a brief chase, both vehicles were stopped just before the Tongaat Toll gate with the assistance of the Umhlali SAPS. Two suspects were arrested in the stolen VW Polo and two suspects were arrested in the Hyundai i20.
Upon searching the Hyundai, multiple vehicle breaking implements, computer boxes used to steal vehicles, as well as a police radio scanner were found.
The suspects are believed to be involved in numerous vehicle thefts in the Durban, Umdloti and Ballito area in the past few months.
All four suspects and the two vehicles were taken to the Umlali Police station for further processing and investigating.
Well done to our team members on yet another successful arrest, which is the latest in recent successes in vehicle related thefts.
