At approximately 08h29 this morning our Emergency Dispatch Center received multiple calls and panic signals from clients regarding a suspect that was fence hopping in the vicinity of Champion Place, Norrie Crescent and James Place Durban North.
We immediately dispatched multiple Armed Reaction Officers and as well as Special Operations Team members to the area.
Whilst in pursuit of the suspect, one of our officers was assaulted by the suspect with a boulder to his arm. The suspect then fled in the direction of the M4.
After an extensive area search, our team finally arrested the suspect on the M4. The suspect had a laptop, iPad, jewellery, and various other household items in his possession. Some of the items recovered on the suspect were positively identified by homeowners from Champion Place and James Place.
The suspect is a well known housebreaker and has been arrested numerous times before by our team.
The suspect together with the stolen items was handed over to the SAPS for further investigation and processing.
The Reaction Officer who was assaulted to his arm was treated on scene by Netcare911 paramedics and has been transported to a private facility for further medical care.
