Westmead Tarp Theft: Quick Action by GWA Tactical Unit Leads to Suspect Apprehension

At 09h29 this morning, members of our GWA Tactical Unit were on routine patrol when they spotted two males carrying a tarp on Richmond Road in the Westmead area.

Finding this suspicious, our officers immediately decided to investigate. As they approached the two males, the suspects dropped the tarp and attempted to flee on foot.

After a lengthy foot chase, one suspect was apprehended on the M13 by our GWA Tactical Team and GWA Armed Response Officers. Unfortunately, the second suspect managed to evade arrest.

Further investigation revealed that the tarp had been stolen from a business premises on Gillits Road in the Westmead area. The manager of the business was informed and decided to press charges against the suspect.

Pinetown SAPS arrived on the scene a short while later and transported the suspect, along with the stolen tarp, for further investigation and processing.

The collaboration between the Greater Westmead Association, Pinetown SAPS, and Marshall Security played a crucial role in ensuring a safer environment for everyone involved. This successful apprehension underscores our commitment to community safety. We commend our officers for their vigilance and swift response, ensuring that suspicious activities are promptly addressed.
