Our members responded to a business robbery at a well-known shopping centre in the Musgrave area, the large gang of suspects had fled the scene in multiple vehicles which lead to a high-speed chase on the N2 and an arrest of a suspect.
On Friday evening at approximately 17h50 members of our Special Operations Team were responding to a business robbery that was in progress at a retail outlet shop at a well-known shopping centre.
Whilst responding, our members received information from the SAPS Crime Intelligence that a large gang of suspects had fled the scene towards the N3 highway in three separate vehicles, a white VW Polo, a silver Toyota Etios and a white Suzuki Swift.
Our members together with the SAPS Pheonix Trio Crime Unit and the SAPS Provincial Trio and Vehicle Theft Unit strategically positioned themselves on the N2 South bound just before the M7 off-ramp.
A short while later two of the three wanted vehicles were spotted travelling at high speed on the N2 southbound, passing our team members. Our team members immediately responded and after a short high-speed chase, both vehicles were brought to a stop and multiple suspects fled from their vehicles. One suspect was immediately arrested, however, after an extensive search the outstanding suspects managed to evade arrest after fleeing into a nearby dense bush.
It is believed that the same suspects and vehicles were involved in a business robbery earlier in the day at a well-known shopping centre in the Sea View area.
Scenes were secured and will be investigated and processed further by the SAPS.
