crime stats

In April, 219 incidents were reported to our Emergency Dispatch Centre, a slight increase on the 200 average incidents per month we recorded during Q1. The top three types of incidents were housebreakings, theft of copper and theft, with the main areas victim to business break-ins being Briardene, Umgeni Park and Sea Cow Lake.

We saw some great successes in April, arresting 15 suspects and recovering 10 stolen or hijacked vehicles.

  • Three Stolen Vehicles Recovered Following Crucial Arrest In Phoenix

The arrest of two suspects wanted for being involved in numerous armed robberies and hijackings in the greater Durban area over recent weeks led to the recovery of three stolen vehicles.

With a significant rise of copper theft over the past couple months, 94 incidents reported to our Emergency Dispatch Centre since January from hotspot areas Avoca, Effingham, Glenhills, Redhill and Parkhill, our members have been keeping their eyes open for the culprits.

We of course also experienced an influx of calls for help during the floods, which occurred a month ago.
