Foot Chase Leads To Arrest Of Durban North Housebreaking Suspect

Foot Chase Leads To Arrest Of Durban North Housebreaking Suspect

A repeat offender, who was arrested last week but released due to insufficient evidence, was again snared by our Armed Response Officers yesterday.

At approximately 11h26, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received multiple alarm activations from a client’s residence on Gainsborough Drive in Durban North.

Response vehicles were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene within 5 minutes.

Upon arrival of Armed Response Officers they noticed that the front gate to the property had been forced open, and additional backup was requested. Response officers entered the property and noticed a suspect carrying a gas cylinder, which he immediately dropped and started to flee.

After a short foot chase the suspect was arrested on Gainsborough Drive. Upon searching the suspect, various jewellery pieces were found in his possession.

Upon further investigation it was established that the jewellery had been stolen from the same property from which he’d fled, after the suspect had forced his way into the home.

The suspect was handed over to the Greenwood Park SAPS and was charged for housebreaking and theft.

We urge residents to not become complacent with their security over the holiday period. Remember to keep alarm systems armed, both when home or away. A shocking 60% of incidents we respond to, the alarm system wasn’t armed.
