Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 15h50, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received information regarding two individuals walking across the Steelbank Bridge in the Westmead area while carrying a large white bag, immediately raising concern.
Multiple GWA Marshall Security Armed Response Officers were dispatched to investigate.
Upon arrival, officers made contact with the two individuals and conducted a stop-and-search. Inside the bag, officers discovered approximately 10 kilograms of copper.When questioned, one of the individuals claimed to own a scrap yard but could not provide any valid explanation for the copper.

Pinetown SAPS members arrived shortly thereafter and both individuals were taken into custody and all recovered items were handed over to SAPS for processing.
