This morning our teams have already recovered a stolen vehicle and made two arrests, one of the suspects believed to be linked to several housebreaking incidents in the La Lucia area.
At approximately 04h00 the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a mobile panic alert from a client on Gainsford Place in the La Lucia area after a suspect broke into the garage and vehicles. An accurate description of the suspect was supplied by the homeowner and all our Armed Response Officers and Special Operations Team members were informed accordingly to be on the lookout for the wanted suspect.
Utilising the community-funded Artificial Intelligence cameras within the area, we were able to track the suspect’s movements which assisted our Armed Response Officers and Special Ops Team members to apprehend the suspect on William Campbell Drive in the La Lucia area. Various housebreaking implements were found in the suspect’s possession. The Durban North SAPS were contacted and arrived on scene a short while later and transported the suspect to Durban North SAPS where the suspect will be charged for housebreaking and being in possession of housebreaking implements.
The suspect is believed to be linked to several other cases of housebreakings within the La Lucia area, which will be investigated further by Durban North SAPS.
At approximately 07h20 members of our Special Ops Team were activated to assist Tracker SA with locating a Toyota Hilux that had been stolen in the Morningside area.
After an hour’s search, the vehicle was eventually recovered where it was found abandoned on a dirt road in the Ntuzuma E – Section by Tracker SA assisted by members of our Special Ops Team and Ntuzuma SAPS. The vehicle was found severely stripped. The scene was secured and will investigated and processed further by the SAPS.
Later at around 10h00 the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre was alerted via a WhatsApp crime alert group that a suspect had just stolen a car cover from a vehicle that was parked on Marine View Avenue in the Umgeni Park area.
Multiple Armed Response Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene and whilst members were responding to the scene, a suspect matching the description given by the witness was spotted on Brownsdrift Road carrying the car cover. The suspect was immediately apprehended.
This is the third time the suspect had been arrested by Marshall Security, first in July 2019 and again in July 2020. According to the suspect he had been released from prison in September this year after completing his sentence for the first housebreaking case in 2019. He stated that he had initially been released on a suspended sentence, but due to him being caught again for theft in July 2020 his suspended sentence came into effect and he was imprisoned.
Greenwood Park SAPS were dispatched and arrived on scene a short while later and transported the suspect to Greenwood Park SAPS where the suspect will be charged with theft.
