This morning just before 10h00, the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received a distressing call from a the member of the public. The caller reported witnessing a pedestrian lying on Riverside Road that had been stabbed multiple times.
Responding immediately, Multiple Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Operations Team were dispatched and arrived on the scene within minutes.
Upon arrival, it was established that the pedestrian was robbed of R50 and stabbed multiple times by three suspects hiding in the mangroves along the Umgeni River bed. First aid was immediately administered by members of our Special Operations Team.
A clear description of the wanted armed suspects was supplied by the victim to members of our Special Operations Team and the Durban North Trio Crimes Unit and a search immediately commenced.
After an thorough search, three suspects were apprehended, and the knife used in the stabbing was also recovered.
EMRS arrived on scene to attend to the victim, who was in a serious but stable condition and was transported to a nearby hospital for the further medical care.
The apprehended suspects, aged between 13 to 50 years, were taken to Durban North SAPS and will be facing charges of Armed Robbery and Attempted Murder.
