At approximately 11h20, members of the public flagged down a Marshall Security Armed Response vehicle in the Greyville area after a newborn baby was discovered along the roadside by DSW employees.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a newborn baby boy wrapped in a blanket and placed inside a black rubbish bag at the corner of Mathews Meyiwa Road and Fynn Street. Tragically, the baby showed no signs of life.
Netcare 911 paramedics were immediately called to the scene and, following an assessment, declared the newborn deceased.
Marshall Security officers secured and cordoned off the scene before handing it over to SAPS for further investigation.
This is a deeply saddening incident, and our thoughts are with all those affected by this heartbreaking discovery. Every child deserves the chance to live, to be loved and to experience the world around them.
