In the early hours of this morning at approximately 04:50 whilst our Armed Officers were on routine patrol in the Avoca area spotted a suspect tampering with an air conditioning unit at a non clients business premises on Chris Hani Road.
When the suspect noticed our Officer, he attempted to escape by climbing onto the roof of the building.
Additional Armed Response Officers were dispatched to scene as back up. Moments later, the suspect jumped down from the roof in an attempt to flee but was promptly apprehended before he could escape.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had gained access to the property by cutting the wire fence. Once inside, he severed copper pipes from the air conditioning unit.

The owner of property arrived shortly after being notified and confirmed her intention to open a formal case with SAPS. The suspect was transported to the Greenwood Park Police Station for further processing, and the case is now under investigation.
Further investigations from our Special Operations Team revealed that the suspect is possibly linked to a business burglary on the weekend in Northgate Place, Red Hill. Greenwood Park SAPS Detectives have been informed accordingly and will follow up.
This incident underscores the importance of rapid response and effective teamwork. As the festive season approaches, Marshall Security urges businesses and property owners to stay alert and take the correct security measures to prevent any losses.
While some security companies may only be showing interest in the Avoca area now, Marshall Security has been here all along – actively protecting, patrolling, and serving the community for years. We don’t just show up when it’s convenient; we invest. Our commitment is backed by real resources, including:
- Dedicated Armed Response Vehicle patrolling Avoca and Effingham 24/7.
- Additional response vehicles during peak hours to handle increased demand.
- Seven Special Operations Team (SOT) vehicles ready to respond to serious crimes and provide backup whenever required.
But our investment doesn’t stop there. Long before others began “showing interest” in the area, we installed the latest ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras to boost crime prevention and ensure faster response times. While some may be making promises, we’re already delivering results.
We remain deeply committed to the Avoca and Effingham communities, where our proactive measures, ongoing patrols, and industry-leading technology have been making an impact for years. So, before considering change, ask yourself – why change what’s already working?
