On Friday our teams responded to two incidents, one arrest following a housebreaking in Morningside and the other a vehicle suspected to have been stolen in October last year that was pulled over for investigation in the Avoca area.
On Friday evening at approximately 21h30 the Marshall Security Emergency Dispatch Centre received reports from a WhatsApp crime alert group that a suspect had been spotted fleeing from a house on Hawthorne Lane in the Morningside area.
Multiple Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Operations Team were immediately dispatched and given an accurate description of the wanted suspect. As our members arrived on scene, a suspect matching the description was fleeing the premises but he was immediately apprehended. Reports from the scene indicated that the same suspect had been at the same premises earlier that evening where he had stolen several undisclosed items, and had returned for more, but was disturbed.
The Berea SAPS were notified, arrived on scene a short while later, and transported the suspect to Berea SAPS for further investigation and processing.
Earlier that same day at approximately 16h00, a vehicle that had been reported stolen from the Brighton Beach area in October last year was spotted on Duffy Crescent in the Avoca area.
Multiple Armed Response Officers and members of our Special Ops Team were dispatched and spotted the vehicle parked on Duffy Crescent five minutes later, where the single occupant within the vehicle was questioned by our members.
The Greenwood Park SAPS Trio Crimes Unit were informed and arrived on scene a short while later. The driver of the vehicle together with the stolen vehicle was transported to Greenwood Park SAPS for further investigation.
