INCIDENT: SHOOTING / ATTEMPTED THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE / SUSPECTS ARRESTED

At approximately 18:25 on Friday evening, Marshall Security were alerted to a theft of motor vehicle in progress in Russel Place of Kenneth Kaunda Road in Durban North.
A Marshall Security armed reaction officer responded to the scene and on arrival found five suspects in the act of attempting to steal a Toyota Fortuner.
As the reaction officer approached the scene, the suspects alighted from the vehicle firing multiple shots at the officer who returned fire in defense of his life, striking two of the armed men.
The suspects jumped into a Toyota Etios getaway vehicle and attempted to flee when they were stopped by our officer. Five men alighted from the vehicle and fled on foot attempting to evade arrest, one man was apprehended on scene.
With the assistance of the SAPS K9 unit, a search of the surrounding area was conducted resulting in the K9 officer apprehending two men. Two other suspects remain at large.
Our officer was not injured in the ordeal. The two suspects sustained gunshot wounds and dog bites and were treated and attended to on scene by Crisis Medical Paramedics.
Further investigation revealed the Toyota Etios to be stolen and several implements used in theft of motor vehicle crimes were found in the vehicle.
The scene was secured and handed over to the South African Police Services for further investigation and processing.
