Three shoplifting suspects arrested following a well-planned and precisely executed operation by Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team.
On 24 March 2026 at approximately 16h00, Marshall Security Special Operations Team members, acting on intelligence from an ongoing shoplifting investigation, conducted a targeted stakeout at a well-known centre in Umhlanga.
Members observed the suspects arriving in a silver VW Polo and stopping on Ridge Road outside the centre. Two occupants exited the vehicle and entered the centre, while the driver remained inside the Polo. SOT members maintained continuous observation of the driver, while additional members monitored the two suspects inside the centre.
During surveillance, members observed the suspects entering a well-known bottle store, where they began behaving in a highly suspicious manner. Within minutes, the suspects were seen concealing alcohol bottles under their clothing before exiting the store and heading towards the getaway vehicle.
Acting decisively, members intercepted the two suspects as they exited the store and successfully apprehended them, recovering stolen liquor in their possession. At the same time, other SOT members moved in on Ridge Road, blocking in the silver VW Polo and apprehending the driver.
During the arrest, members observed a large quantity of sealed alcohol bottles on the back seat of the vehicle. The driver was unable to provide proof of purchase or a reasonable explanation for the items.
SAPS members were immediately notified and arrived shortly thereafter. All three suspects were placed under arrest, and the vehicle, suspects, and recovered alcohol were transported to Durban North SAPS for further investigation and processing.
Further investigation revealed that the same suspects were linked to thefts earlier during the day where large quantities of alcohol from a bottle store in Ballito and from a well known bottle store in the Umdloti area werte stolen, prior to attempting another theft at the Umhlanga centre.
This arrest operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing, strategic planning, and seamless execution by Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team. Through careful surveillance, coordination, and decisive action, members were able to disrupt a repeat offending group and bring them to justice.
