Proactive patrols by Marshall Security Armed Response Officers resulted in two suspects being apprehended in separate incidents, including one suspect linked to a previous housebreaking and theft case.
In the first incident, on 1 September 2026, Marshall Security attended to a housebreaking and theft incident on Venice Road in Morningside, where multiple items were stolen. CCTV footage was obtained from the scene, and the homeowner formally registered a case at Berea SAPS.
Images of the suspect were subsequently circulated to Marshall Security Armed Response Officers, who remained vigilant and on the lookout for the wanted individual.
Today, at approximately 07h50, while conducting proactive patrols along Umgeni Road, a Marshall Security Armed Response Officer spotted the wanted suspect. The officer immediately apprehended the suspect and contacted SAPS.
Members of SAPS attended the scene shortly thereafter, and the suspect was transported to Berea SAPS for further investigation and processing. Berea SAPS Detectives were also informed accordingly.
In a separate incident yesterday, at approximately 09h40, a Marshall Security Armed Response Officer was conducting proactive patrols in the Riverside Road and Thames Place area of Umgeni Park when he noticed a suspicious individual pushing a green DSW wheelie bin while also carrying a damaged steel bin.
The officer approached the individual and questioned him regarding the items. The suspect was unable to provide a reasonable explanation as to where the items had come from and was subsequently apprehended.
It was established that the green steel bin belonged to a homeowner in the Durban North area. The suspect had allegedly stolen the bin and attempted to break it apart in order to sell the metal as scrap. The homeowner formally registered a case at Durban North SAPS.
SAPS were contacted and attended the scene, with the suspect subsequently transported to the police station for further investigation.
Marshall Security commends the vigilance and proactive approach of its Armed Response Officers. Their attention to suspicious behaviour, combined with effective information sharing and awareness of previously circulated suspects, resulted in two successful apprehensions.
These incidents once again demonstrate the value of proactive patrols, community information sharing and close cooperation with SAPS in identifying suspects, recovering suspected stolen property and assisting with ongoing investigations.
